NADA Miami 2023

We are beyond pleased to announce our Cultural Partnership with NADA during Miami Art Week 2023!

We’ve been selected as one of five Cultural Partners to participate in the fair this year in Miami alongside ART FOR CHANGE (New York), Bas Fisher Invitational (Miami), Hordaland Kunstsenter (Bergen), and YoungArts (Miami). Come find us in booth CP3!

Last year was our first time participating in a fair during Miami Art Week and we were humbled to collaborate with House of Yes on an immersive project at Satellite Art Show. This year, we’re glad to be back and showcasing the most exciting parts of our platform at NADA. Scroll on to learn more about what we’ll be presenting this year at the fair!

🛣️ Our booth is all about navigating visual art careers - together.

Maybe you’ve recently graduated, moved to a new city, started a family, re-entered the art world, or are looking for ways to invigorate your current practice, and the best way to do this is… not alone! From educational experiences to making important art world connections to building a like-minded network of peers for yourself, we’ve got the tools for artists to to learn best practices, share their work, and seek new opportunities. A true artist’s paradise, we aim to take the guess work out of the cold, opaque art world and pave the way for warmth and clarity.

🏝️ The Artwork: a cohesive pool of diverse perspectives

We’ve selected 14 of our artist members for our presentation, including Adina Andrus (New York), LaThoriel Badenhausen (Illinois), Kate Casanova (Colorado), Helena La Rota Lopez (New York), Cara Lynch (New York/Tennessee), Jennifer Mawby (Vancouver, CA), David McDonough (New York), Taiyo Okamoto (New York), Alissa Polan (New York), Lucha Rodriguez (Georgia), Heather Renée Russ (New York), Lisa Saeboe (New York), Saki Sato (New York), and Sophia Sobers (New York).

From carved paper drawings, to stained glass, to scanner photography, we have carefully curated works from our members that pleasantly surprise with their materiality and bold points of view while still appealing to a wide range of tastes and styles. Our pride and joy is to harmoniously pair works from artists within our network who represent a diversity of perspectives, backgrounds, locations, career stages and mediums. Together these selected small works create a presentation that is fresh, inclusive, and affordably priced, showcasing the breadth of talent and voices from our community while enticing a new audience to become both patrons and fans of our artists.

🎨 The Public Project: connect through creativity

How can we convey what we do together as a community when so much of it relies on interpersonal connection, sharing, and feedback? Through creativity of course! What better way to get at the heart of our network than to pair up with someone and create something new together. So, we've come up with an Exquisite Corpse public project for our booth.

What is an Exquisite Corpse?

According to MoMA & Tate websites, it was invented in the 1920s by artists of the Surrealist movement, and is a game in which each participant takes turns writing or drawing on a sheet of paper, folding it to conceal their contribution, then passing it to the next player for further contribution. The name Exquisite Corpse (cadaver exquis) came from an early version of the game where contributors each added a word without knowing the ones that came before, resulting in the bizarre phrase, “The exquisite corpse will drink the new wine.”

Adding your contribution, stimulating your creativity, and working towards something new in your practice (and maybe drinking some wine too…) are cornerstones of what we aim for within our artist centered network. Stop by our booth to work on a collaboration with an old friend or connect with someone new. We’ll be posting our favorites up on our wall throughout the week!
