PERIPHERY is a one day exhibition of work by Kirk Maynard, presenting oil pastel drawings based on the artist’s own image. The works exhibited are part of a series which seeks to address the marginalization of black people in certain spaces of America. Maynard’s choice to hide his facial features from the drawings is further commentary on marginalization and how stereotypes cause these certain spaces to ignore the full humanity of people of color.
Gallery hours will be 1-6pm. An artist talk from Kirk Maynard will begin at 6pm where he will discuss his practice, the series for the pop up, and open discussion with the audience about the themes in his presentation. A reception will follow till 8pm.
