Virtual Visit with Jacki Davis

This month we have the opportunity to speak with Jacki Davis. Elise Thompson.

Jacki Davis (b. Houston) is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in New York City. Her work has been shown in New York, California and New Mexico. She holds a BFA from the College of Santa Fe, NM (Performance Art, Painting and Installation). Davis studied with the New York Arts Program, completing a residency with two New York-based artists at Thread Waxing Space Gallery.  She most recently recently completed an eight month artist in residence at Carrie Able Gallery in Brooklyn, NY.

Davis has lived and worked between Los Angeles and New York, across art direction, creative writing, and costume design. Her work embodies concepts of the natural world and often refers to beliefs of indigenous peoples, directly linked to the artist's heritage. Davis’s current series of paintings explore the internal process of mind in relationship to external manifestation of reality through the Artis't’s interpretation of quantum theory, and string theory She creates works on paper, artist books, paintings, photography, clay, performance and installation work. As a passion project, Davis has spearheaded arts initiatives with the non-profit Roof Project to initiate conversations on topics related to climate change and environmental justice. She recently exhibited at Pulse Art Fair 2019 in Miami Beach.
