Joan Reutershan studied studio art and art history at Hunter College, CUNY, New York. Her cityscape paintings present fragmented urban iconography and snarky fluorescent color. Collage and assemblage objects extend her work out from the surface into low relief, and off the stretched canvas onto the wall. Her imagery eschews reference to the vertical plane, and draws from the street and sidewalk—from graffiti, connective urban design, and detritus. Reutershan proposes the urban landscape as an open field of possibilities--provocative, baffling, and inclusive. She lives in Brooklyn and works in Long Island City, NY
